Items Fr. Bob Could Use (updated 3/3/2010) The college kids will be here this weekend! If you have any of the following items, Fr. Bob could use them NOW! (Thanks!) KITCHEN: Serving utensils(large spoons, spatulas, etc.), pots and pans, frying pans, basically whatever gadgets are needed in a home kitchen. CLEANING SUPPLIES; For kitchen and bathrooms (cleansers as well as sponges etc) GENERAL SUPPLIES; Toilet paper, napkins, paper towels, kitchen towels, CHAPEL SUPPLIES; Vestments, candles for the altar (If interested please contact Fr Bob at 773-486-8431 for details. Also, still needed: 3 Large Capacity Front Load Washing Machines 3 Large Capacity Gas Dryers White Twin Sheet Sets White or Beige Towel Sets Storage Shelves [metal for food storage] Postage stamps Front windows Now this is not a small item... To replace the front windows would cost about $25,000, but Father has a group that will volunteer the labor if he can get the materials. There are four windows across the front. You can see the windows that need to be replaced in the picture of the convent on the home page. They are the ones in the gray area. Someone else already donated all of the other windows around the building, except for the basement windows some of which are broken and will eventually also need to be replaced. For now, we need to focus on these front windows so we can properly house the kids coming to do service work on March 1. To replace them all is about $8000. If you have materials that might happen to work or a favorite supplier that would help out, that would be great. If you would like to donate any portion of that amount toward the windows, that would be swell too. Insulate the Chapel Windows The chapel in the convent is so beautiful now. The only thing that needs to be done is put the pews and kneelers back in place, insulate the windows and do a little cleaning. We'll have an update for you and new pictures posted by the end of the week! Always Needed! Canned goods and non-perishable foods & supplies. Maybe your church or group would like to sponsor a food drive for the Mission. The food would be welcome and is needed! WORKERS!!!! As you will see from the convent update, there is still much work to be done by March 1! A morning or day of sweeping or painting would make a great service project. PRAYERS!!! And speaking of Prayers, just in case you are down and need a little encouragement, here is a little piece that may help you. I would give credit to the author but I don't know who wrote it. You may have seen it before, but it's good to keep in mind. Fr. Bob does a lot of P.U.S.H.ing. |
A man was sleeping at night in his cabin when suddenly his room filled with light, and God appeared. The Lord told the man he had work for him to do, and showed him a large rock in front of his cabin. The Lord explained that the man was to push against the rock with all his might. So, this the man did, day after day. For many years he toiled from sun up to sun down; his shoulders set squarely against the cold, massive surface of the unmoving rock, pushing with all his might. Each night the man returned to his cabin sore and worn out, feeling that his whole day had been spent in vain. Since the man was showing discouragement, the Adversary (Satan) decided to enter the picture by placing thoughts into the weary mind. “You have been pushing against that rock for a long time and it hasn’t moved.” Thus, giving the man the impression that the task was impossible and that he was a failure. These thoughts discouraged and disheartened the man. “Why kill myself over this?” he thought. “I’ll just put in my time, giving the minimum effort; and that will be good enough.” And that is what he planned to do, until one day he decided to make it a matter of prayer and take his troubled thoughts to the Lord. “Lord,” he said, “I have labored long and hard in your service, putting all my strength to do that which you have asked. Yet, after all this time, I have not even budged that rock by half a millimeter. What is wrong? Why am I failing?" The Lord responded compassionately, “My friend, when I asked you to serve Me and you accepted, I told you that your task was to push against the rock with all your strength, which you have done. Never once did I mention to you that I expected you to move it. Your task was to push. And now you come to Me with your strength spent, thinking that you have failed. But, is that really so? Look at yourself. Your arms are strong and muscled, your back is sinewy and brown, your hands are callused from constant pressure, and your legs have become massive and hard. Through opposition you have grown much, and your abilities now surpass that which you used to have. Yet you haven’t moved the rock. But I asked you to be obedient and to push and to exercise your faith and trust in My wisdom. This you have done. Now I, My friend, will move the rock.” At times, when we hear a word from God, we tend to use our own intellect to decipher what He wants, when actually what God wants is just a simple obedience and faith in Him. By all means, exercise the faith that moves mountains, but know that it is still God who moves mountains. When everything seems to go wrong…just P.U.S.H.! When the job situation gets you down…just P.U.S.H.! When people don’t react the way you think they should…just P.U.S.H.! When your money looks “gone” and the bills are due…just P.U.S.H.! When people just don’t understand you…just P.U.S.H.! P=Pray U=Until S=Something H=Happens |
| How to Donate: 5/14/09 - Your web master was at a party tonight and a friend said, "I went to the Mission web site and I wanted to donate, but it didn't say how. I don't have any of the things on the Wish List and I can't come to work right now." I said, "If people want to donate, they know how, and things are tough right now. I'm not going to ask." She said, "I want to donate! Make it easy on me!" Okay, so here it is- just in case anyone else is like my friend. If you would like to help Fr. Bob financially and are able, he would certainly appreciate it. Checks can be made payable to "Mission of Our Lady of the Angels," and mailed to: Fr. Bob Lombardo 3808 W. Iowa St., Chicago, IL 60651. He has some major expenses coming up on the convent, and he has no budget and gets no salary... It is only through the generosity of many good people (and lots of prayer) that so much has been accomplished to date at the Mission. So if you feel like surprising him, no need to wait until Christmas. AND Don't forget: If your company has a Matching Gift program, the Mission probably qualifies. I work at CNA Insurance Company and they matched. So be sure to check! (He doesn't know I added this... He's away at a meeting.) P.S. After a few minutes of discussion, she said she probably did have time to come out and "roll up her sleeves" after all and would do so soon! |
